Li ion batteries power the present generation of technology. Li ion batteries can store a lot of energy within them and also allow this energy to be extracted very fast ,making it possible to create lighter but more powerfull devices. This is one of the reasons why they are so widely used. 

But there is also a growing concern about How safe Li ion batteries are.

What makes Li ion batteries dangerous? 

a simple answer would be the electrolyte present in it.The electrolyte is usually an organic solvent that is both corrosive and flammable.

What may cause a battery to be dangerous?

well,

• Mechanical abuse
• Heating it
• Overcharging
• short circuit

so ..............

  obviously you shouldnt do any of these.

Does leaving the phone to charge overnight destroy it?

No it doesnt.It is a very popular mobile phone charging myth but is not true if your phone is not ages old.

The point is that today phones are embedded with so much of technology that they have circuitry 

 within them that prevents any extra charge from getting into the battery after it is full.

Does charging only at 0% help?

No . This idea worked in the case of nickel cadmium batteries which had something called memory effect but is not true for li ion batteries.
